Samsara Story

I dreamed of the Spa Samsara concept while I was a busy working mum with two children under two, working full time and studying for an MBA.  To say I was busy was an understatement, hence the dream of a different lifestyle.

I wanted to create a business where I could devote my energy not just mentally and physically but also spiritually and from the heart.  This is where Spa Samsara has evolved from.

I wanted to create a sacred space where people could nurture their spirit, revive their body and learn about wellness.

To this end I was drawn to the Eastern concept of health which involves not just the body but also the mind and the spirit.  I reminisced about my childhood in Sri Lanka where Ayurveda was prominent and wellness was intertwined in our day to day life.  The daily oil massages, specially prepared food for each season and time of day, natural plant remedies and concoctions that we were given as children has stayed with me.  The daily and seasonal rituals were as important and celebrated as a part of life’s journey.

Our Name

I chose the name Samsara which is Sanskrit for ‘the cycle of birth and rebirth’.  In Eastern philosophy a soul goes through many cycles of birth before reaching enlightenment and total bliss where the individual soul connects to Divine Soul – Nirvana or Moksha.  I truly believe in the journey of life and acquiring new experiences, knowledge and growth.  One cannot go backwards, only forwards.

Our Philosophy

At Spa Samsara our philosophy is that all of life is a journey to learn, live, and love.  I have endeavoured to re-create the Eastern Spa experience of tranquillity, therapy and spirituality where treatments are based on the fundamental principle of a ‘life-force’ which flows through the body – Prana, Ki, or Chi.  A balance of body, mind and spirit is essential to achieve a harmonious flow of this life force and is the true meaning of Wellness.

This is my definition of Wellness:

“Wellness is more than health.  It is a journey leading to a way of being where each individual reaches and maintains inner, outer and lasting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual harmony and in turn contributes to the greater wellness of the community and the universe that we all share”

Our Logo

While creating the concept of the spa I was searching for a logo that symbolised the Spa Samsara message.  I happened to go to an art exhibition on Tibetan Mandalas and fell in love with a 17th Century Mandala.  Unlike most Mandalas which have a deity in the middle as a focus of meditation, this one had a lotus.  The lotus in Eastern culture is an emblem of purity as it rises above the muddy and murky waters of its birth representing the Soul rising from the confusion of matter into the clarity of enlightenment; an inspiration of beauty and resilience.  I bought this Mandala and it now hangs in my home and is a constant source of inspiration.

The Spa Samsara logo is inspired from this Mandala.  The red circle in the middle represents the cycle of Samsara and the triangle in the very centre is a symbol of female creative energy ‘Shakti’ as described in the ancient Vedic tradition. The colours are red, white and brown: red is the colour of life, celebration and joy; white embodies the ageless nature of Spirit, purity and sanctity; and brown for the colour of our Mother Earth.

True to the spirit of the journey of Samsara we endeavour to keep evolving as a company always looking for ways to create unique and innovative offerings while maintaining our core values of Integrity, Purity and Wellness.

I welcome you to Spa Samsara.  Let us take you on a journey of discovery of the true meaning of wellness which goes beyond skin deep.  In a world which often loses sight of the spirit, let us be a sanctuary for you to stop for a moment in time and be still.
